Essential oils

Essential oils are the extracted volatile, aromatic compounds found in the leaves, flowers, bark, stems, roots, resin, seeds of plants or pith of citrus fruits.  The healing power of these oils are changing the way people choose to address some of their health concerns.  Just like plants, we too are a carbon based life form.  This is why essential oils are so compatible and beneficial.

These oils hold many different healing properties from antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, stimulating, immune boosting, calming, antiseptic and many many more.

Essential oils are being used not only for health conditions, but for cleaning, washing, cooking, skin regimes….. everything!

With the blending of these single oils people have the power to create many different, unique and amazing combinations.

The grouchy pants blend is regularly used at the end of the day – we are only human!

How to use essential oils

There are many ways to use essential oils:

Aromatic

The very term Aromatherapy was derived form the fact that essential oils are, by nature, aromatic. Their aroma’s can elicit powerful physiological, mental, emotional responses. Essential oils are also volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly an are rapidly absorbed into the body. When a person inhales an essential oil, the molecules of oil go up the nostril to the epithelium patch. The molecules attach to cilia hairs, which are picked up by nerves. These nerves send information to the brain receptors. So essentially the oil is not sent to the brain, but a chemical message is sent to the brain, the amygdala and hippocampus.

Diffusing is another form of an aromatic method. Diffusing an oil via an electrical atomising diffuser, separates the oils, using and cold air pump, into tiny particles that creates a micro fine vapour in the air. You could also use a manual spray bottle, preferably glass. Add essential oil, water and alcohol or vinegar.

Topical

Essential oils are fat soluble and because of their chemical compound they are readily absorbed and enter the bloodstream when they are applied directly to the skin. Some oils require a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or almond oil. You can add oils to your bath or bath salts. Add into face creams, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser.

Internal

Oils can be used in cooking, or taken internally with use of a gelatin capsule or straight under the tongue.

WITH ALL OILS, YOU DO NEED O BE CAREFUL AND KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TAKING. SOME OILS ARE NOT SAFE FOR INGESTION AND SOME OILS CAN BURN THE SKIN. IF IN DOUBT CONTACT A PRACTITIONER THAT USES AND UNDERSTANDS ESSENTIAL OILS.
