There are some important questions everyone should ask themselves and ponder if a better outcome is possible.
Emotional health and wellbeing
What does it actually mean for me
So what do we think this statement actually means?
What is emotional health?
Emotional health is the ability to understand the value of your emotions and use them to move your life forward in positive directions. Everyday emotional wellbeing also involves identifying, building upon and operating from your strengths rather than focusing on fixing problems or weaknesses.
How do emotions impact on our health?
Do you even think emotions have anything to do with our health?
Emotional wellbeing definition by the Mental Health Foundation: ‘A positive sense of wellbeing which enables an individual to be able to function in society and meet the demands of everyday life; people in good mental health have the ability to recover effectively from illness, change or misfortune.’
Why spend time on understanding Emotional Wellbeing?
Because it is the very foundation of our everyday lives.
- Social activities
- Driving a car
What kind of things affect or inhibit our emotional wellbeing?
Stress, overwhelm, lack of trust, lack of understanding
How do these things then affect our physical wellbeing?
Comfort eating – sugar cravings
Ladies – stress = hormone imbalance, weight gain, thyroid dysfunction, no sleep, hot flushes!! Shall I go on?
What other ailments can we link together with unbalanced emotional wellbeing?
Ulcers, Inflammatory diseases??
Times of high emotions at Christmas, weddings, funerals, births, deaths, divorce, or standing in a long queue or even driving a car, or being late for an event can cause stress and an unbalanced emotional state.
Learning about our own emotional wellbeing will
help us navigate the many hurdles life throws at us.
It is not what we have to deal with in life, but rather HOW we deal with the many obstacles that life hurls at us. How resilient we are when we face adversity. The ability to move through difficulties and not just getting stuck and frozen by the issue.
If you find you are spending too much time in the emotions of overwhelm, anger, frustration and disappointment it is time to get some tools to help you balance out your life. These emotional stressors can end up manifesting themselves in the physical.
What do I need to do to improve my emotional state?
First we need awareness and understanding or who we are. What are our:
Values – Morals – Beliefs – Actions – Reactions
If you feel that you need help in identifying your core values and beliefs so you have better emotional health then make the choice, look better, feel better, be better.
